When To Pray pt. 2

When To Pray pt. 2

We are currently working through R.A. Torrey’s book “How to Pray,” published by Whitaker House Publishing. We have seen that there are numerous hindrances to prayer, but is there a certain time to pray? What does the Word of God say about “When to Pray”? Prayer before and after a crisis. Jesus Christ prayed before all of the great crisis in His earthly life. He prayed before choosing the twelve disciples (Luke 6:12-13), and before His anointing with the Holy Spirit and His entrance upon His public ministry (Luke 3:21-22). He prayed before announcing to the twelve His approaching death and before the great consummation of His life on the cross (Luke 9:18-22 & 23:39-46). Jesus prepared for every important crisis by a season of prayer. If Jesus Christ, the Son of God, spent time in prayer to prepare for what was ahead, then how much more should we do the same! When any crisis of life is seen to be approaching, we should prepare for it by a season of very definite prayer to God. That brings us to the question, how can we “see” what is still in the future? John 16:13 – Howbeit when He, the Spirit of Truth, is come, He will guide you into all truth: for He shall not speak of Himself; but whatsoever He shall hear, that shall He speak: and He will shew you things to come. I don’t have the time here to go into seeing across the “light line”, but let’s just leave it as it is here in this verse: The Holy Ghost shall show you things to...

When To Pray

We are currently working through R.A. Torrey’s book “How to Pray,” published by Whitaker House Publishing. We have seen that there are numerous hindrances to prayer, but is there a certain time to pray? What does the Word of God say about “When to Pray”? Prayer in the Morning: Mark 1:35 – And in the morning, rising up a great while before day, he went out, and departed into a solitary place, and there prayed. Many of the mightiest men of God have followed the Lord’s example in this. In the morning hour the mind is fresh and at its very best. It is free from the distraction that the day brings. When the early hours are spent in prayer, the whole day is sanctified. Power is then obtained for overcoming life’s temptations and for performing it’s duties. Praying in the early hours of your day can be likened to a kind of first fruit offering, in that you give the first of your day to God in prayer. It is in this time of Prayer that we gain our victories in the battles that the day may bring! So then is it settled? When to Pray: In the early hours of morning! Right? Well not exactly, let’s investigate a little more. Prayer in the Night Luke 6:12 – And it came to pass in those days, that He (Jesus)  went out into a mountain to pray, and continued all night in prayer to God. Jesus prayed both in the early hours of morning and through out the night. There must be reasons behind His actions. He never did...

Hindrances to Prayer pt 2

We are currently working through R.A. Torrey’s book “How to Pray,” published by Whitaker House Publishing. We have very carefully studied the positive conditions of prevailing prayer. But, there are some hindrances to prayer. God has made these very plain in His Word. This week we are continuing our study with the next six hindrances to prayer. Sin: Isaiah 59:1-2 – Behold, the LORD’S hand is not shortened, that it cannot save; neither His ear heavy, that it cannot hear: 2) But your iniquities have separated between you and your God, and your sins have hid His face form you, that He will not hear. Be honest, what comes across your mind first when your prayers seemingly go unanswered? I believe that we all have been there at one time or another when we begin to listen to the enemy’s voice and start to believe that God doesn’t always answer our prayers. 2 Corinthians 1:20 – For all the promises of God in Him are yea, and in Him Amen, unto the glory of God by us. I do understand how we were raised but I can’t find scripture where God said no. Anyone who finds his prayers unanswered should not think that what he asks of God is not according to His will. Instead, he should go alone to God with the Psalmist’s prayer, Psalms 139:23-24 – Search me, O God, and know my heart try me, and know my thoughts: 24) And see if there be any wicked way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting. Wait before Him until He puts His finger upon...
